17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The English and Dutch Fleets exchanging Salutes at Sea with the Prince and the Gouden Leeuw in the Foreground, 1684

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating oil painting by Willem van de Velde I. This magnificent artwork captures a historic moment of maritime diplomacy between two powerful nations during the late seventeenth century. In this scene, we witness an impressive display of naval power as the English and Dutch fleets exchange salutes at sea. The composition is dominated by majestic sailing vessels with billowing sails, their flags proudly fluttering in the wind. The artist's meticulous attention to detail brings these ships to life, showcasing nautical equipment and intricate rigging. The focal point of the painting is undoubtedly the Prince and his flagship, Gouden Leeuw (Golden Lion), positioned prominently in the foreground. As they sail through calm waters under a cloudy sky, both fleets pay homage to their respective leaders with grand gestures and hand movements. Van de Velde's masterful use of light creates a sense of depth and atmosphere within this expansive natural space. The warm hues of sunset bathe everything in a golden glow, adding an ethereal quality to this historical moment frozen in time. This remarkable piece exemplifies Van de Velde's skill as a renowned Dutch artist from Europe's Golden Age. It serves as a testament to his ability to capture not only physical details but also intangible elements such as national pride and diplomatic relations through his brushstrokes. Overall, "The English and Dutch Fleets exchanging Salutes at Sea with the Prince" stands as an exquisite example of fine art that transports viewers back to an era defined by exploration, trade, and political alliances on treacherous waters.
