17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Crossing or The Departure of the Sailor, 1901

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating oil painting by Alessandro Milesi that beautifully captures the emotions and complexities of farewell. Set against the backdrop of a Venetian harbor, the scene depicts a poignant moment as a sailor bids goodbye to his loved ones. The composition is filled with symbolism and tender gestures. A young woman stands on the bank, her hand raised in farewell while holding onto her baby. A gondola waits nearby, ready to transport the departing sailor. In another boat, a young girl waves goodbye with an innocent smile on her face. Milesi's masterful brushwork brings life to every detail in this evocative artwork. The soft hues and delicate play of light create an atmosphere filled with both hope and sadness. As we gaze at this painting, we can almost hear the gentle lapping of water against boats and feel the weight of separation hanging in the air. "The Crossing or The Departure of the Sailor" reminds us of love's bittersweet nature – how it intertwines joyous moments with heart-wrenching goodbyes. It speaks to our shared human experience: saying farewell to those we hold dear as they embark on new journeys. This timeless piece from Milan's Fondazione Cariplo serves as a testament to Milesi's talent for capturing raw emotion through artistry. It invites viewers into its narrative, allowing them to reflect upon their own experiences of departure and longing.
