23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Eastern Question, a Fire in Constantinople

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating engraving by Joseph Nash that transports us back to the dramatic events of 19th century Constantinople. The artwork, originally published in The Graphic on June 24,1876, captures the intensity and chaos of a devastating fire that engulfed the city. Nash's meticulous attention to detail brings this historical moment to life. Flames lick at crumbling buildings while billowing smoke fills the sky, creating an atmosphere of urgency and danger. As we gaze upon this scene, we can almost hear the crackling of flames and feel the heat radiating from the inferno. The engraving not only showcases Nash's artistic talent but also serves as a reminder of the turbulent times known as "The Eastern Question". This term refers to political tensions surrounding Ottoman Turkey's decline and European powers' involvement in its affairs during the 19th century. Through his artistry, Nash provides us with a glimpse into this significant period in history when Europe and the Middle East were intertwined in complex power struggles. It is through works like these that we gain insight into how art can serve as both documentation and interpretation of historical events. "The Eastern Question, a Fire in Constantinople" stands as a testament to Nash's skill as an artist and his ability to capture moments that resonate with viewers even centuries later. It invites us to reflect on our shared human experiences across time and geography while appreciating fine art's ability to transport us into different worlds.
