1806 1810 Admiral Bolt Collapse Commemorative Glasgow Horatio Lightning Memorial Nelson Storm Striking Struck Nelsons

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph captures the dramatic moment when Nelson's Monument, standing tall on Glasgow Green, was struck by lightning in 1810. Created by John Knox after the event, this print offers a glimpse into the awe-inspiring power of nature and its ability to humble even the grandest human creations. Erected in 1806 as a memorial to Admiral Horatio Nelson, who had passed away the previous year, Nelson's Monument stood as a symbol of Scotland's admiration for this legendary naval hero. However, just four years later, it fell victim to an intense storm that unleashed a bolt of lightning upon its pinnacle. The top six meters collapsed under the force but were eventually restored so that today it continues to stand proudly. The image showcases not only the destructive force of nature but also highlights humanity's resilience and determination in preserving our historical landmarks. It serves as a reminder that even in moments of chaos and destruction, there is always hope for restoration and renewal. Nelson's Monument remains an iconic sight within Glasgow Green park—a testament to both Admiral Nelson's legacy and Scotland's enduring spirit. This lithograph allows us to witness firsthand the extraordinary event that left its mark on history while inviting contemplation about our place within nature’s vast power.
