FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print, we are transported back to ancient Greece as we witness the intense confrontation between Oedipus and the Sphinx. Painted by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in 1864, this oil on canvas masterpiece captures the essence of mystery and intellectual prowess. The composition is filled with symbolism that adds depth to the narrative. Oedipus, portrayed as a pensive and contemplative figure, stands confidently before the enigmatic Sphinx. His foot rests upon a skull, representing mortality and human vulnerability in the face of life's riddles. Arrows surround Oedipus, signifying his determination to solve the Sphinx's riddle and free Thebes from its torment. The skeletal remains scattered around them serve as a haunting reminder of all those who have failed before him. As our eyes wander across every brushstroke, we can almost feel ourselves being drawn into their mental duel. We ponder alongside Oedipus as he grapples with the Sphinx's perplexing question: "What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?". This iconic scene encapsulates not only an epic myth but also explores profound themes such as fate versus free will and man's eternal quest for knowledge. It serves as a testament to Ingres' mastery of capturing complex emotions through his meticulous attention to detail. Displayed at Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, USA, this print invites us to delve into Greek mythology while marveling at Ingres' artistic
