FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a poignant moment in history - "The death of Verginia, or Virginia". Taken from Ward and Lock's Illustrated History of the World, published around 1882, this image transports us back to ancient Rome. In this tragic scene, we witness the heart-wrenching sacrifice made by Lucius Verginius for his beloved daughter. The beautiful young woman named Virginia was being pursued relentlessly by Appius Claudius Crassus, one of the decemviri. Despite her engagement to another man, Crassus lusted after her and sought to claim her as his own. To protect his daughter's honor and save her from such a fate worse than death, Lucius took drastic measures. At the Shrine of Venus Cloacina, he unsheathed his dagger and plunged it into Virginia's chest. Her lifeless body lies before us as a testament to paternal love and unwavering devotion. This photograph not only showcases an important historical event but also highlights the artistic prowess of the English School in capturing emotions through visual storytelling. The composition evokes deep sympathy for Verginia while simultaneously condemning the actions of those who would exploit their power for personal gain. As we gaze upon this powerful image captured by Ken Welsh and preserved through time, let us remember Verginia's sacrifice as a reminder that love can sometimes demand unimaginable sacrifices in order to preserve dignity and freedom against all odds.
