23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving by James Gillray, titled "Louis XVI Taking Leave of his Wife and Family" depicts a poignant moment in history. The image portrays the final farewell between Louis XVI, the ill-fated French king, and his beloved wife and children in 1793. Imprisoned in the Temple during the tumultuous times of the French Revolution, Louis XVI faced an uncertain fate. As soldiers and guards stand watchfully nearby, a priest offers solace to the family gathered around a table for their last meal together. The atmosphere is heavy with grief as tears stream down their faces. Marie Antoinette, portrayed here as a strong yet sorrowful figure, clings tightly to her husband's hand while their children look on with anguish etched upon their young faces. This powerful portrayal captures both the love shared within this royal family and the impending tragedy that awaits them. The artist masterfully conveys emotions through intricate details such as facial expressions and body language. Through this artwork, we witness not only personal loss but also witness an entire dynasty facing its demise. As we gaze upon this historical print from Musee Carnavalet in Paris, France, we are reminded of the fragility of power and how it can be torn apart by revolution. It serves as a somber reminder of human vulnerability amidst political turmoil—a testament to both artistic skill and historical significance captured within one frame.
