C02nd Commander Laurel Wreath Medallion Roundel

31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This black and white lithograph captures the essence of Publius Helvius Pertinax, a Roman General and Emperor, from "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Holy Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon. The portrait, created by Henry R. Cook in the 19th century, showcases Pertinax's commanding presence with his profile turned towards us. Pertinax's distinguished beard frames his face, adding an air of wisdom and authority to his countenance. A laurel wreath adorns his head, symbolizing victory and accomplishment. As we gaze upon this print, we are transported back to ancient Rome where rulers like Pertinax held immense power over their empire. The roundel medallion relief on which he is depicted adds depth and dimension to the image. It serves as a reminder that even though time has passed since Pertinax's reign, his legacy lives on through historical records such as this one. This remarkable piece offers us a glimpse into the past - a window into an era filled with grandeur and political intrigue. It reminds us of the rich history that shaped our world today. Displayed in a private collection but made available for all to appreciate through Fine Art Finder at www. bridgemanart. com, this portrait invites us to explore not only Pertinax's story but also our own connection to ancient civilizations that have left an indelible mark on human civilization.
