23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This colored engraving, titled "The French Flag Entering Abomey" takes us back to a significant moment in history. Captured by artist Henri Meyer and published in Le Petit Journal on the 10th of December, 1892, this print depicts the entree des Francais a Abomey (entry of the French into Abomey). The image transports us to the Dahomey Campaign in Benin during the era of colonial expansion. It showcases an army of soldiers proudly marching through an African village, bearing their tricolore flag high above them. The scene is filled with both awe-inspiring power and cultural intrigue. As we examine this historical artwork, it's impossible not to reflect upon the complex dynamics at play during this period. The Franco-Russian Alliance influenced France's desire for territorial control and economic dominance across West Africa. One cannot help but ponder over the impact such events had on native populations as they witnessed foreign forces entering their lands. This print serves as a visual reminder of how colonialism shaped nations and cultures throughout history. "The French Flag Entering Abomey" invites us to delve deeper into these narratives while appreciating Meyer's artistic talent in capturing such a pivotal moment. Preserved within private collections today, this piece continues to serve as a testament to our shared past and reminds us that understanding history is crucial for shaping our future.
