17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving from the 19th century showcases a delightful scene of hamsters and field voles in their natural habitat. The print, part of a private collection, is believed to have originated from Friedrich Justin Bertuch's renowned "Picture Book for Children" published between 1790 and 1830. The artwork beautifully captures the diversity of these small mammals, featuring the common hamster, black hamster, blind mole rat, desert golden mole, as well as other species like the blind mouse and shrewmouse. Each creature is meticulously illustrated with intricate details that bring them to life on paper. The composition exudes an air of tranquility as these furry creatures go about their daily activities in harmony with nature. Their tiny paws delicately tread upon lush green grass while they explore their surroundings with curiosity and grace. This enchanting print not only serves as a visual delight but also offers an educational insight into various mammal species found in Germany during that era. It reminds us of the rich biodiversity that exists within our world and encourages us to appreciate even the smallest inhabitants of our ecosystems. Preserved through time by ePurix Verlag Volker Christen, this German work of art continues to captivate viewers with its timeless charm. As it emerges from obscurity into public view once again thanks to Bridgeman Images' efforts, we are reminded of the importance of preserving such historical treasures for future generations to cherish and learn from.
