FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving from the 19th century depicts a colossal octopus, also known as a giant squid or kraken, launching a ferocious attack on an unfortunate ship. The intricate details and skillful artistry bring this dramatic scene to life, showcasing the power and menace of these legendary sea creatures. The artist's expertise is evident in every stroke of the engraving, capturing the swirling tentacles of the octopus as they wrap around the vessel with deadly intent. The ship appears small and vulnerable in comparison to the massive creature that engulfs it, emphasizing its helplessness against such a formidable adversary. This print is taken from Pierre Denys-Montfort's renowned book "Histoire naturelle des mollusques" originally published in 1802. It serves as both an educational resource and a thrilling visual representation of marine life during that era. As we gaze upon this artwork today, we are reminded of mankind's eternal fascination with mythical sea monsters and our ongoing struggle to conquer nature's forces. Whether viewed as a historical artifact or appreciated for its artistic merit alone, this engraving transports us back in time to an age when tales of monstrous sea creatures captured imaginations worldwide.
