23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a figure of a terrified Jew in Vernets famous picture, believed to be a depiction of Baron James Rothschild. The intensity of the subject's fear is palpable, as his wide eyes and clenched fists convey the distress he must be experiencing. This powerful image is taken from an illustration for "The Romance of The Rothschilds" by Ignatius Balla, published in 1913. Baron James Rothschild was renowned for his immense wealth and influence in the world of finance. As a member of the prominent Rothschild family, he played a significant role in shaping global banking services. This portrayal highlights not only his financial power but also hints at societal perceptions towards Jews during that era. The photograph offers us a glimpse into history, shedding light on both the nobility associated with figures like Baron James Rothschild and the prejudices they faced due to their religious background. It serves as a reminder that even those who possess great wealth can still experience fear and vulnerability. Captured by Horace Vernet, this image showcases his mastery in capturing human emotions through art. With its stark contrast between light and shadow, it draws viewers into contemplating the complex interplay between money, power, fame, and identity. Overall, this portrait invites us to reflect on historical narratives surrounding wealth and religion while appreciating Vernet's artistic prowess in immortalizing such profound emotions on canvas.
