Galleon Mast North West Coast Rigging

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to Brest in the late 18th century. Painted by Louis Nicolas van Blarenberghe, this watercolor on paper captures the essence of a bustling harbor town. The scene is filled with maritime elements that bring life to the canvas. In the foreground, a majestic galleon sails gracefully through the waters, its rigging and mast perfectly depicted. Behind it stands a formidable fortress, guarding the entrance to the port. The artist's attention to detail is evident in every brushstroke, from the cannon lining the fort walls to the intricate patterns of waves crashing against them. The landscape stretches out towards the horizon, revealing a panoramic view of Brest's north-west coast. The coastline curves gently along with its shoreline meeting seamlessly with an expansive sea. This painting not only showcases France's rich maritime history but also highlights Brest as an important port during this era. Displayed at Louvre (Cabinet de dessins) in Paris, this artwork offers viewers a glimpse into a bygone era when ships ruled these waters and forts protected coastal towns like Brest. It serves as both an exquisite piece of art and historical documentation of this significant French city. With its vibrant colors and meticulous attention to detail, "Brest c. 1780" continues to captivate audiences today just as it did centuries ago when it was first created by Blarenberghe.
