17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Edith Finding the Body of Harold, 1828 - A Haunting Glimpse into History

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this oil on canvas print by Emile Jean Horace Vernet, we are transported back to a pivotal moment in history. The vastness of the painting, measuring an impressive 340x386 cm, allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the scene. The artwork depicts Edith, also known as Edith the Swan-necked or Eadgifu, discovering the lifeless body of her husband Harold II after the Battle of Hastings on October 14th, 1066. This significant event marked William the Conqueror's victory and forever changed England's destiny. Vernet masterfully captures Edith's anguish and despair as she kneels beside her fallen love. Her face is etched with grief and disbelief at this tragic loss. The composition skillfully juxtaposes her delicate figure against a desolate landscape strewn with remnants of battle—a powerful reminder of the brutality that unfolded. This painting not only commemorates a historical turning point but also highlights themes such as loyalty, sacrifice, and resilience amidst adversity. It serves as a poignant reminder that even in times of great turmoil and heartbreak, human strength endures. Now housed at Musee d'Art Thomas Henry in Cherbourg, France; this masterpiece continues to captivate viewers with its emotional depth and historical significance. As we gaze upon it today—free from commercial use—we can't help but be moved
