An attractive Malagasy village of the Betsileo people

An attractive Malagasy village of the Betsileo people who live southwest of the capital, Antananarivo. Most houses in the village are double-storied with kitchens and living quarters located on the first floor. Almost all of them have wooden balconies and some have outside staircases. Livestock is often kept in the ground floor of a house overnight. The Betsileo are industrious people and expert rice farmers. Their terraced, irrigated paddy fields are a feature of Madagascars southern landscape

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an alluring Malagasy village belonging to the Betsileo people, nestled in the southwest region of Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital. The village exudes a unique charm with its double-storied houses that house both kitchens and living quarters on the first floor. Each dwelling boasts wooden balconies, some even adorned with outside staircases, adding to the picturesque scenery. The villagers' industrious nature is evident in their expertise as rice farmers. Their terraced and irrigated paddy fields are a prominent feature of Madagascar's southern landscape. As night falls, it is not uncommon to find livestock sheltered on the ground floors of these houses. Stepping into this African community reveals a thriving agricultural scene where small holdings dot the land. The Betsileo people have mastered their craft over generations, cultivating rice with exceptional skill and dedication. This awe-inspiring image captures not only the beauty of African landscapes but also highlights the significance of agriculture within local communities like Andohatangona. It serves as a reminder of how cultures intertwine with nature to create breathtaking scenes that captivate our senses.
