Charles Darwin Home House Naturalist Plate
23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving takes us back in time to the home of one of history's most influential figures, Charles Darwin. Located in Downe Beckenham, Kent, England, this picturesque house served as the birthplace of groundbreaking scientific theories that would forever change our understanding of life on Earth. Within these walls, Darwin penned his seminal work "The Origin of Species" a revolutionary book that introduced the concept of natural selection and challenged traditional beliefs about creationism. This study became a sanctuary for Darwin's relentless pursuit of knowledge and exploration into the mysteries of evolution. As we gaze upon this illustration from "The International Library Of Famous Literature" published in London in 1900, Volume XIII, we can almost imagine Darwin immersed in deep contemplation at his desk. Surrounded by books and specimens collected during his expeditions aboard HMS Beagle, he meticulously pieced together evidence that would shape our understanding of biological diversity. Beyond the confines of his study lies Darwin's favorite walk – a path where he found solace amidst nature's beauty. It was here that he often sought inspiration for his scientific inquiries while marveling at the intricate interconnectedness between species. Ken Welsh has masterfully captured both the architectural grandeur and intellectual significance embodied within this historic residence. This print serves as a timeless tribute to Charles Darwin's enduring legacy as a British naturalist whose ideas continue to shape our understanding of life itself.
