Englands Chris Oti is mobbed by fans after his hat-trick against Ireland - 1988 Five Nations

Rugby Union - 1988 Five Nations Championship - England 35 Ireland 3
Englands Chris Oti, scorer of three tries, is congratulated by fans and teammates Will Carling, left, and Simon Halliday at Twickenham.
Prior to this game England had scored just one try at Twickenham in the previous two years. They were trailing 0-3 at half-time, however they then ran in six second-half tries, and as Oti completed his hat-trick a group from the Benedictine Douai school began to sing their own first XV anthem, " Swing Low Sweet Chariot". It has remained a Twickenham and England rugby standard from that point on

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this iconic print captured by Colorsport Images, England's Chris Oti is seen being mobbed by ecstatic fans after his remarkable hat-trick against Ireland in the 1988 Five Nations Championship. The electrifying match took place at Twickenham, where prior to this game, England had struggled to score tries for two consecutive years. At half-time, with a trailing score of 0-3, the English team seemed destined for another disappointing performance. However, they unleashed an awe-inspiring second-half comeback that left both their opponents and spectators in sheer disbelief. As Oti completed his third try of the match, a wave of euphoria swept through the stadium. The image beautifully captures the moment when Oti is surrounded by jubilant supporters and embraced by teammates Will Carling and Simon Halliday. Their expressions reflect pure elation as they celebrate this historic achievement together. Notably, as Oti sealed his hat-trick that day, a group from Benedictine Douai school spontaneously erupted into song - their own rendition of "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". Little did they know that this impromptu anthem would go on to become synonymous with Twickenham Stadium and England rugby itself. This photograph serves as a timeless reminder of Chris Oti's incredible feat on that fateful day in 1988 – a moment etched forever in rugby history and celebrated passionately by fans across generations.
