Edward-Duke of Windsor-Simpson

Edward, Duke of Windsor (R), with his wife the Duchess Wallis of Windsor, waves his hat to the welcoming crowd as they arrive at Victoria Station in London, from Paris, 13 November 1956. This is their first visit together to Britain since 1953. Edward VIII of England, eldest son of George V and Mary of Teck, abdicated because of his love affair with American-born divorcee Wallis Simpson. After his abdication, he became Duke of Windsor and married Mrs Simpson, who had changed her name by deed poll to Wallis Warfield, in a private ceremony on 3 June 1937 at Chateau de Cand, Monts, France. / AFP PHOTO / -

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a historic moment as Edward, Duke of Windsor, and his wife the Duchess Wallis of Windsor make their grand arrival at Victoria Station in London. The year is 1956, marking their first visit together to Britain since 1953. Edward VIII, once known as the King of England before abdicating the throne due to his love affair with American-born divorcee Wallis Simpson, exudes an air of regality as he waves his hat to the welcoming crowd. This image captures not only a significant event but also showcases the undeniable charm and charisma possessed by this royal couple. As eldest son of George V and Mary of Teck, Edward's decision to marry Mrs Simpson caused quite a scandal within British society. However, it did not deter him from pursuing true love. After relinquishing his title as king and assuming the role of Duke of Windsor, he married Mrs Simpson in an intimate ceremony held at Chateau de Cand in Monts, France on June 3rd, 1937. This AFP photograph immortalizes a moment that symbolizes resilience and devotion against all odds. It serves as a reminder that even those born into royalty are not immune to matters of the heart. With its timeless appeal and historical significance, this print beautifully encapsulates an extraordinary chapter in both personal lives and British history alike.
