Us-Mt. St. Helens-Anniversary Image

This image taken 22 August, 1999 by NASAs Landsat 7 satellite and obtained 19 May, 2000 from NASAs Earth Observatory Internet site shows Mt. St. Helens as it looks 20 years after the eruption of the catastophic volcano. The height of Mt. St, Helens was reduced from a height of 9677 feet (2950 meters) to about 8364 Ft (2550 meters) in the eruption on the morning of 18 May, 1980 that sent a column of dust and ash more than 25 km (15.5 miles) into the atmosphere and shock waves from the blast that knocked down trees within 10 km of the central crater. 31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring aftermath of one of nature's most catastrophic events - the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Taken by NASA's Landsat 7 satellite on 22 August, 1999, and obtained from NASA's Earth Observatory Internet site on 19 May, 2000, this image showcases the mountain twenty years after its devastating eruption. The sheer scale of destruction is evident as you gaze upon the once majestic peak. Prior to the eruption on that fateful morning of 18 May, 1980, Mt. St. Helens stood tall at a height of 9677 feet (2950 meters). However, in an instant, its summit was reduced to approximately 8364 feet (2550 meters) due to the immense force unleashed by this cataclysmic volcano. The photograph reveals a transformed landscape marked by desolation and resilience simultaneously. The surrounding terrain bears witness to the colossal column of dust and ash that soared more than 25 km (15.5 miles) into the atmosphere during the eruption. Shock waves radiating from the blast knocked down trees within a radius of ten kilometers around its central crater. As we contemplate this image captured by NASA's lens, we are reminded not only of nature's destructive power but also its ability to regenerate over time. This anniversary image serves as a testament to both human curiosity and our planet's capacity for rebirth amidst adversity.
