A Legendary Striker - Derek Parkin of Wolverhampton Wanderers

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photograph, Derek Parkin, a legendary figure in the annals of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club history, poses confidently for the cameras during a photocall in the 1960s. The image, captured by renowned photographers S&G, encapsulates the essence of a golden era in Wolves' history. Born on March 24,1938, in Wolverhampton, Parkin began his professional career with his boyhood club in 1956. Over the next decade, he would go on to become a key member of the Wolves team that dominated English football in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Parkin's prowess in front of goal earned him the moniker "The Wolfman.". He was a prolific striker, scoring an impressive 127 goals in 312 appearances for Wolves between 1956 and 1967. His most memorable moment came in the 1960 FA Cup Final, where he netted the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers. This triumph marked Wolves' fifth FA Cup title and their last major trophy to date. Apart from his club successes, Parkin also represented England at the international level, earning 14 caps and scoring 4 goals between 1960 and 1964. He was a part of the England squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 1962 World Cup in Chile. After retiring from professional football in 1971, Parkin continued to be involved with the game as a coach and scout. In 2003, he was inducted into the Wolverhampton Wanderers Hall of Fame, an honor richly deserved for a man who gave so much to the club and its fans. This photograph of Derek Parkin, taken during his prime years at Wolves, serves as a testament to his legendary status in the club's history. His goalscoring exploits and unwavering dedication to the team have left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of Wolves supporters.
