Worker looks at a WIMP detector in a pool of water

WIMP detector. Technician looks at the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) detector in a water tank at the UK Dark Matter Collaboration (UKDMC) project site at Boulby Mine, Britain. About 90% of the universes mass may be invisible dark matter such as WIMPs. The detector is 1100 metres underground to shield it from cosmic rays which could affect the results. The water & white plastic cladding around the detector shield it from natural radioactivity in the mines walls. The detector contains a scintillation device which measures the recoil energies of normal nuclei aft- er they have been hit by a WIMP, a rare event due to the WIMPs weak interactions with other matter

A2 (59.4 x 42cm) Poster Print

Discover the intrigue of the scientific world with our Media Storehouse Poster Prints featuring the captivating image of a worker intently examining a Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) detector at the UK Dark Matter Collaboration (UKDMC) project site. Immerse yourself in the depths of Boulby Mine, Britain, as this technician peers into the water tank, on the brink of a potential groundbreaking discovery. Our high-quality poster prints bring the mystery of dark matter research to life, making for an inspiring addition to any office, classroom, or home science enthusiast's space.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 42cm x 51.1cm (16.5" x 20.1")

Estimated Product Size is 42cm x 59.4cm (16.5" x 23.4")

These are individually made so all sizes are approximate

Artwork printed orientated as per the preview above, with portrait (vertical) orientation to match the source image.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, a dedicated technician is seen engrossed in the intricate workings of a WIMP detector at the UK Dark Matter Collaboration project site. Located deep within the Boulby Mine in Britain, this cutting-edge research facility delves into the mysteries of our universe's hidden mass - dark matter. With approximately 90% of the cosmos' mass being invisible and elusive dark matter, scientists are fervently studying Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) to unravel its enigma. To ensure accurate results, this particular detector is positioned 1100 meters underground, safeguarding it from disruptive cosmic rays that could compromise its findings. The technician's focused gaze reflects their commitment to understanding these weak interactions between WIMPs and normal nuclei. Encased within a water tank and enveloped by white plastic cladding, this sophisticated device remains shielded from natural radioactivity present in the mine walls. At its core lies a scintillation device capable of measuring recoil energies exhibited by normal nuclei after encountering a rare event - an interaction with a WIMP. This extraordinary photograph encapsulates not only the meticulous efforts undertaken by researchers but also highlights humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge about our universe's most enigmatic phenomena. This awe-inspiring image serves as a testament to human curiosity and determination as we strive to unlock the secrets concealed within dark matter's veiled realm.
