VLBA radio telescope

Hawaii VLBA radio telescope. Technician using a laptop computer below the dish antenna of one of the radio telescopes in the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) network. This international network consists of ten telescopes located from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands. The VLBA network simulates a giant antenna by using interferometry techniques to combine the data obtained by the individual telescopes. Each antenna weighs 240 tonnes, is nearly as tall as a ten-storey building, and has a dish with a 25 metre diameter. The telescope obtains measurements of centimetre long radio wavelengths. This dish antenna is located on the extinct volcano Mauna Kea in Hawaii, USA

A2 (59.4 x 42cm) Poster Print

Discover the fascinating world of radio astronomy with our Media Storehouse VLBA Radio Telescope Poster Print. This captivating image, captured by Science Photo Library, showcases the intricate details of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) radio telescope located in Hawaii. With a technician intently working below the dish antenna, this print brings the complexities of radio astronomy to life. Hang this stunning poster in your home or office to inspire curiosity and ignite conversations about the wonders of science and technology.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

Estimated Product Size is 42cm x 59.4cm (16.5" x 23.4")

These are individually made so all sizes are approximate

Artwork printed orientated as per the preview above, with portrait (vertical) orientation to match the source image.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Science Photo Library, we are transported to the breathtaking Mauna Kea in Hawaii, where the VLBA radio telescope stands tall against the backdrop of an extinct volcano. A dedicated technician can be seen diligently working below the colossal dish antenna, engrossed in his laptop computer. The VLBA network is a remarkable international collaboration comprising ten telescopes spanning from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands. These immense antennas, each weighing a staggering 240 tonnes and towering as high as a ten-storey building, work together using interferometry techniques to create a virtual giant antenna. By combining data collected by these individual telescopes, scientists are able to simulate an unprecedented level of precision and accuracy. With its impressive 25-meter diameter dish, this particular telescope specializes in capturing centimeter-long radio wavelengths. As one gazes at this awe-inspiring image, it becomes evident that humanity's quest for knowledge knows no bounds. The dedication of astronomers and technicians alike allows us to unravel mysteries hidden within our vast universe. This photograph serves as a testament not only to human ingenuity but also to our insatiable curiosity about what lies beyond our planet. It encapsulates the spirit of scientific exploration and reminds us that through collaborative efforts like those behind the VLBA network, we continue pushing boundaries and expanding our understanding of astrophysics.
