TEM of 2 merozites of the malaria parasite
False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of two merozoites of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum (blue & pink) parasitising a red blood cell. Malaria is spread by the mosquito Anopheles sp. which deposits Plasmodium sporozoites whilst feeding off its hosts blood. The parasite enters the liver where it reproduces & releases merozoites that enter the red blood cells, where further growth & multiplication occurs. Affected red blood cells are destroyed by the parasites & the host animal becomes anaemic, suffering from recurrent fevers. Magnification: x7, 000 at 6x7cm, x3, 500 at 35mm size

This particular print showcases a false-color Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) image of two merozoites of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, infecting a red blood cell. Witness the stunning detail of these tiny organisms as they invade and alter the host cell, bringing the complexities of biology right into your home or office space. A perfect addition for any scientific enthusiast, educator, or healthcare professional's workspace, these high-quality poster prints are sure to inspire awe and curiosity.
A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.
Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate world of malaria parasites, offering a glimpse into their destructive nature. In this false-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM), two merozoites of the Plasmodium falciparum parasite are seen parasitizing a red blood cell. The vibrant blue and pink hues highlight the presence of these tiny invaders within the host's bloodstream. Malaria, a disease transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes, begins when sporozoites from the mosquito's saliva enter the human body during a blood meal. Once inside, they make their way to the liver where they multiply and release merozoites – as depicted in this image. These merozoites then invade red blood cells, initiating further growth and multiplication. The consequences for infected individuals are severe; affected red blood cells are destroyed by these relentless parasites, leading to anemia and recurrent fevers. Malaria takes its toll on both humans and animals alike, causing immense suffering and posing significant health risks. With a magnification level of x7,000 at 6x7cm or x3,500 at 35mm size, this TEM image offers us an up-close look at one aspect of this complex disease. Through scientific exploration like this photograph from Science Photo Library, researchers gain valuable insights that contribute to our understanding of malaria pathology and aid in developing effective treatments for those affected by this global health challenge.
