Saguaro cactus
Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea). This large cactus can live for over 250 years, reaching heights of over 15 metres. It is a succulent plant, capable of storing over 6000 kilograms of water. It possesses very shallow but wide- spreading roots, which can grow to cover an area over 25 metres in diameter. The saguaro cactus flowers in May and June, each flower lasting for only 24 hours.
