Le Thot replica of Lascaux cave painting. The original Lascaux cave was closed to the public in 1963. As well as the full Lascaux II replica, a set of five replica paintings are housed at the Le Thot centre of prehistoric art (Espace Cro-Magnon), which opened in 1972. This is the Well Scene Le Thot replica. The Lascaux cave paintings in south-western France, around 17, 000 years old, were painted by Cro-Magnon man, an early European culture of modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens), using red, brown and yellow ochre, and black manganese dioxide. The original Lascaux cave, which dates back around 17,000 years, has been closed to the public since 1963. However, visitors can still marvel at this incredible piece of prehistoric art at the Le Thot centre of prehistoric art (Espace Cro-Magnon). The Well Scene Le Thot replica is one of five replica paintings housed at this cultural heritage site in southwestern France. Created by Cro-Magnon man using ochre pigments in red, brown and yellow shades, as well as black manganese dioxide, these ancient artworks hold both religious and artistic significance.
