The mouthparts are used to bite into the underside of its prey and then feed on the internal fluids (haemolymph). Members of this sub- family are known as the aphid-eaters. The larvae are ferocious carnivores that feed on aphids (sub-family Homoptera), a common pest of flower, vegetable and fruit crops.
