Glaucoma. Artwork showing the flow of the watery aqueous humour

Glaucoma. Artwork showing the flow of the watery aqueous humour (arrows) in a human eye with glaucoma, abnormally high pressure in the eye. The humour, which is continuously produced from blood capillaries, can no longer flow out of the eye through the Schlemms canals (small dark blue tubes in cross-section at upper & lower centre). The resulting rise in pressure crushes the blood vessels that supply the optic nerve fibres with blood, killing the fibres and slowly causing blindness. In a healthy eye, the aqueous humour fills the chamber between the cornea (pale blue arch, centre) and lens (pale blue oval, centre right), maintaining the eyes shape

A2 (59.4 x 42cm) Poster Print

Introducing the Media Storehouse range of Poster Prints featuring the captivating image "Glaucoma" by Science Photo Library. This striking artwork offers a unique perspective into the inner workings of the human eye, illustrating the flow of the aqueous humour in a healthy eye (represented by the arrows) and contrasting it with the abnormally high pressure and potential blockage seen in an eye with glaucoma. Ideal for medical offices, classrooms, or any space where scientific education and visual storytelling are valued, these high-quality poster prints bring the complexities of the human body to life.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 42cm x 55.2cm (16.5" x 21.7")

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork from Science Photo Library depicts the intricate flow of aqueous humour in a human eye affected by glaucoma. Glaucoma, characterized by abnormally high pressure within the eye, disrupts this delicate balance and poses a severe threat to vision. The arrows vividly illustrate how the watery fluid struggles to find an exit through the Schlemms canals, which appear as small dark blue tubes at the upper and lower center of the image. As pressure builds up due to blocked drainage, blood vessels supplying vital nutrients to optic nerve fibers become crushed, leading to their demise over time and ultimately resulting in gradual blindness. This print serves as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences that glaucoma can inflict on one's sight. Contrasting with a healthy eye where aqueous humour effortlessly fills the chamber between the cornea (pale blue arch at center) and lens (pale blue oval at center right), maintaining its shape, this artwork unveils an unhealthy state caused by blockage and impaired flow. It provides valuable insight into ophthalmic disorders while emphasizing both medical significance and health care implications. With acute precision and attention to detail, this illustration captures not only disease but also artistry in depicting complex medical conditions. By shedding light on glaucoma's detrimental effects on intraocular pressure regulation and highlighting key anatomical structures involved such as cornea, lens, or Schlemms canal; it offers invaluable educational material for professionals in medicine seeking deeper understanding of this condition.
