EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the 1970s at the Maida Vale BBC studios in London. Meet Bugsy and Jinxsy, two mischievous chimps hailing from Southam zoo in Warwickshire. At just three years old, these playful apes found themselves immersed in a unique musical experience. Captured by the lens of an astute photographer, Bugsy and Jinxsy are seen here engaging with a piano during their hour-long recording session for Radio 1 DJ John Peel's show called "Top Gear". Little did they know that their impromptu performance could potentially become backing music for a record or even inspire its creation. Interestingly enough, this brilliant idea was said to have originated from none other than legendary musician John Lennon himself. As these talented monkeys tinkered on the keys, their infectious energy filled the studio with joyous melodies. This photograph not only showcases the incredible bond between humans and animals but also serves as a reminder of how music transcends species boundaries. It captures a moment frozen in time when Bugsy and Jinxsy became unlikely stars of the airwaves on that memorable day - March 21st, 1970.
