This evocative photograph captures the jubilant atmosphere of London's Great Victory March as it passes under Wellington Arch on Constitution Hill in 1918. The First World War, also known as the Great War, had finally come to an end just a few days prior, on November 11, 1918. The elated crowds that filled the streets of the British capital were honouring the sacrifices of the millions who had served and lost their lives in the long and brutal conflict. The triumphant procession, made up of soldiers, civilians, and various military and political dignitaries, made its way from Hyde Park to the Houses of Parliament, passing through some of the city's most iconic landmarks. The sight of the marching troops, their faces etched with relief and pride, was a testament to the unwavering spirit of the British people in the face of adversity. The image of Wellington Arch, with its triumphant Quadriga statue of the Angel of Peace atop, serves as a fitting backdrop to this historic moment.
