Slow Coach and infuriated passenger

A lovely postcard by Lance Thackeray entitled Urgent - featuring a carriage being pulled by a very tired old nag and being driven by an old soak of a driver. The passenger, clearly late for something is not best pleased by the sedate progress of his journey! Date: 1903

Urgent

EDITORS COMMENTS
- A Scene of Patience and Frustration from the Past: A Captivating Postcard by Lance Thackeray (1903) Step back in time with this charming and humorous postcard titled "Urgent" by renowned British illustrator Lance Thackeray, dated 1903. The image captures the essence of a bygone era, where the pace of life was slower and the elements of nature held sway over man-made conveyances. The scene unfolds on a quaint country road, where a weary old nag pulls a carriage, its slow and plodding progress evident in the tired lines on its face. The carriage is driven by an equally old and sozzled driver, who seems more interested in his drink than the urgency of the situation. The passenger, dressed in a suit and carrying a briefcase, is visibly irate, his face contorted in frustration and anger. He glances at his pocket watch, no doubt calculating the mounting lateness of his journey. The driver, seemingly oblivious to the passenger's complaints, continues to doze off, his hat askew on his head. The passenger, in his desperation, contemplates abandoning the carriage and starting his journey on foot. In the distance, a taxi cab can be seen, its driver eagerly awaiting the opportunity to whisk the impatient passenger away. This delightful postcard, with its intricate details and vivid colors, transports us to an era where the simple pleasures of life were appreciated, and the urgency of modernity had yet to take hold. The scene is a testament to the power of patience and the importance of embracing the unexpected twists and turns that life throws our way. Lance Thackeray's "Urgent" is a captivating snapshot of history, a reminder of a time when life moved at a slower pace, and the journey was just as important as the destination. This postcard is a must-have for collectors of historical art, vintage postcards, and anyone who appreciates the beauty and humor of the past.
