On the reverse of the photograph, two inscriptions can be found. The first, in a neat hand, reads "Richard Doyle 1853." This signature is believed to have been added during a significant period in Doyle's career. He was at the height of his success during the 1850s, having illustrated numerous works for prestigious publications such as "Punch" and "The Illustrated London News." The second inscription, "Richard Doyle," is dated 1883, just a few years before Doyle's death. This signature serves as a poignant reminder of the artist's enduring legacy.
