In this intriguing hand-colored copperplate engraving designed and etched by Thomas Rowlandson, we witness a poignant and unexpected encounter between a man suffering from the agonizing pangs of gout and a robust sailor. The scene, titled "Miseries of Human Life," was first published in 1808 by Ackermann and Reverend James Beresford.
