Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning hand-colored copperplate engraving, created by Jean Victor Dupin junior in 1783, showcases the Candlenut tree, scientifically known as Croton laccifer. The tree, with its lush foliage and elegant branches, dominates the center of the image. Surrounding it are various other plants and creatures that thrive in its environment. In the foreground, a beautiful blue Swallowtail butterfly (Papilionidae family) can be seen perched on a branch of the Silkweed plant (Asclepias syriaca), also known as Common Milkweed. The Silkweed plant, with its distinctive white flowers and velvety leaves, is a common sight in North America and is a vital food source for the Monarch butterfly during its larval stage. The Candlenut tree, native to tropical regions of Asia, is named for its edible nuts, which contain a rich, aromatic oil. The oil was traditionally used for lighting, hence the name "Candlenut." The tree's leaves and bark were also used for medicinal purposes, and the sap was used to make a red dye. The intricate details of the engraving, from the delicate veins on the leaves to the intricate patterns on the butterfly's wings, showcase the exceptional artistry of the time. The botanical illustration also includes the scientific names of the various plants depicted, including the Candlenut tree (Croton laccifer), the Swallowtail butterfly (Papilionidae), and the Silkweed plant (Asclepias syriaca). This exquisite work of art is a testament to the fascination with the natural world during the 18th century and the importance of botanical illustrations in documenting and preserving knowledge of the plant kingdom.
