This evocative image captures the intense clash between Dutch and Portuguese forces during the attack on the Fortress of Muxima in Angola, in 1646. Situated in the Bengo Province, along the banks of the Cuanza River, the fortress was a strategic stronghold for the Portuguese colonial power. The Dutch West India Company (WIC), determined to expand its territorial reach in Africa, launched a daring assault on the fortress. The Dutch forces, well-equipped and determined, stormed the fortified position with great ferocity.
