A bold and ambitious plan devised by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, Operation Market Garden aimed to drop thousands of British and American airborne troops into Holland to secure an invasion route into Germany. The British First Airborne Division, along with the American 81st and 101st Airborne Divisions, took part in this historic operation. However, despite the bravery and determination of the troops, the plan ultimately proved unsuccessful.
