The round shape of the marmot's body is a result of its active feeding and the lack of fat in early summer. The bare soil and stones near the burrow are accumulated from the marmots' constant digging and enlarging of their communal nesting sites. The Bobak Marmot is a large rodent, with a stocky body and short, powerful limbs.
