EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic figure of David Livingstone on his last journey in the 19th century. A Scottish missionary and African explorer, Livingstone's legacy is etched into history as he was the first European to discover the majestic Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River in central Africa. In this portrait, we see a man whose face bears witness to a life filled with adventure and hardship. His thick moustache frames his determined expression, reflecting both his resilience and unwavering faith. Livingstone's quest for knowledge led him deep into uncharted territories, searching for the source of the Nile. However, it was during this expedition that he fell gravely ill and went missing. It wasn't until Henry Morton Stanley found him in 1871 that Livingstone was rescued from his ordeal. Despite being found alive, Livingstone never fully recovered from his illness. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of his declining health during those final years spent in Bangwelulu, Zambia. As we gaze upon this image, we are transported back to an era when exploration held great allure and danger lurked around every corner. David Livingstone stands tall as a symbol of courage and dedication to both science and religion - a true pioneer who pushed boundaries in pursuit of knowledge about Africa's vast landscapes. This remarkable engraving offers us a glimpse into the extraordinary life of Dr. David Livingstone - an indomitable spirit forever immortalized through time.
