Tower of London with ravens circling above
The Tower of London viewed over the River Thames from South Bank, London, England. The ravens of the Tower of London are a group of captive Common Ravens which live in the Tower of London. The group of ravens at the Tower comprises at least seven individuals (six required, with a seventh in reserve). The presence of the ravens is traditionally believed to protect the Crown and the Tower; a superstition holds that If the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it. Her Majestys Royal Palace and Fortress, known as the Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078, and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Tower of London, standing tall and majestic against the backdrop of the River Thames. As if guarding this historic castle, a group of ravens gracefully circle above, their dark silhouettes contrasting beautifully with the sky. The ravens themselves hold a significant role within the Tower's folklore and tradition. Believed to protect both the Crown and the Tower itself, these captive Common Ravens are an integral part of its history. According to superstition, should these ravens ever be lost or fly away, it is believed that not only will the Crown fall but also Britain as a whole. Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, known as the Tower of London, has stood for centuries as a symbol of power and authority. Situated on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, it serves as a reminder of England's past conquests and struggles. Built by William the Conqueror in 1078, The White Tower dominates this ancient fortress. Its imposing presence once represented oppression inflicted upon London by those who held power over it. Through John Lawson's lens from Fine Art Storehouse comes this stunning image that encapsulates history and legend in one frame. It invites us to marvel at both architectural grandeur and mythical tales woven into every stone within this timeless landmark.
