Train Spotted

August 1923: A mirror helps the signalman looking down the old Great Eastern line from Stratford Central station. The view from the signalbox was obscured by the waiting room roof and chimney stacks. The Channelsea curve is on the right, giving connections to the North London Railway at Victoria Park, and the Cambridge main line near Loughton Branch Junction. The N7 0-8-2T reflected in the mirror is one of those built at Stratford to AJ Hills design, while in the background a B12 4-5-0 and a tank engine - possibly a J69 0-6-0T - stand alongside trains of very mixed empty stock. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Train Spotted (August 1923): A Glimpse into the Past". Step back in time to August 1923 with this print from Fine Art Storehouse. The image transports us to Stratford Central station, where a signalman peers down the old Great Eastern line. However, his view is obstructed by the waiting room roof and chimney stacks. Thankfully, a mirror strategically placed helps him keep an eye on the tracks. To the right of the frame, we see the Channelsea curve, providing vital connections to both the North London Railway at Victoria Park and the Cambridge main line near Loughton Branch Junction. It's a testament to how interconnected railway networks were even in those early days. Intriguingly reflected in the mirror is an N7 0-8-2T locomotive - one of many built at Stratford based on AJ Hills' design. In addition, we catch glimpses of other trains amidst a sea of mixed empty stock: a B12 4-5-0 and possibly a J69 0-6-0T tank engine stand proudly alongside them. This photograph exudes nostalgia as it captures not just trains but also architectural details that defined that era. With its impeccable composition and historical significance, this print is sure to transport any viewer back in time to witness firsthand this bustling scene from August 1923.
