This print titled "An Ascent of Snowdon" takes us back to the 19th century, capturing a momentous climb up the majestic mountain. The room is filled with an air of excitement as a group of climbers, wearing their climbing gear, eagerly await their adventure. In the meantime, they indulge in a hearty dinner at the hotel before setting off. The difficult and challenging ascent lies ahead, but they are undeterred by the pouring rain outside. They wished for better weather but were determined to conquer Snowdon regardless. Dogs can be seen watering nearby as people pass by in anticipation. As they start their journey upwards, the landscape changes dramatically - misty mountains and foggy tracks become their companions along this arduous path. Yet these brave mountaineers persistently work towards reaching new heights. In one corner of the room, an old man confesses that he has always dreamt of climbing Snowdon since his retirement landed him in this place. His head held high with determination despite his age. The remainder of the ascent takes them through quarries and coffee breaks until finally reaching Llanberis Hotel where tired bodies find solace and rest after such a strenuous endeavor. This print captures not only the physical challenge faced during this ascent but also highlights how women played an active role in mountaineering during that time period. It showcases feminine strength and resilience against all odds while defying societal norms.
