EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1987, we witness a truly remarkable moment in the history of charitable giving. A cheque for an astounding £126,492 is proudly presented to the North of England Children's Cancer Research fund at Gosforth Park, believed to be a record-breaking amount for the United Kingdom at that time. The generous donation was made possible by the fifth annual five-mile run held on May 10th in Newcastle. The race organizing committee chairman, Colin Gregg, can be seen on the right side of the image as he hands over the symbolic cheque to Dr Alan Craft. The significance of this event goes far beyond monetary value. It represents a community united in their determination to combat childhood cancer and provide hope for young lives affected by this devastating disease. The dedication and commitment displayed by both organizers and participants are truly inspiring. This photograph serves as a timeless reminder of how collective efforts can make an enormous impact on society. It captures not only a historic moment but also embodies the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines humanity's finest qualities. Decades may have passed since that memorable day in July 1987, but its legacy continues to resonate today. This image stands as a testament to our capacity for empathy and reminds us all that even small contributions can lead to extraordinary outcomes when driven by passion and purpose.
