This chromolithograph depicts a Diplodocus, an iconic member of the Diplodocid family of sauropod dinosaurs, as illustrated by the renowned German artist and book illustrator, Heinrich Harder. Dating back to the Late Jurassic period, around 155 to 153 million years ago, Diplodocus is one of the most well-known dinosaurs, renowned for its elongated body and distinctive features. Heinrich Harder's illustration, titled "Diplodocus," is taken from his seminal work, "Tiere der Urwelt – Animals of the Prehistoric World," published in Hamburg, Germany, in 1916. Harder, born in 1858, was not only a landscape artist but also an accomplished book illustrator, whose works were celebrated for their meticulous attention to detail and scientific accuracy.
