This photo print, titled "The King-monk fell in the rout of his old East Anglian subjects" takes us back to a significant moment in history. Spence-Jones' book "The Church of England: A History for the People" artist Sidney Paget skillfully captures the intensity and drama of this historical event. We see Sigeberht standing tall with a staff in hand and shield on arm, leading his soldiers fearlessly into battle. Tragically, despite their bravery and determination, Sigeberht and his forces were overwhelmed by the might of the Mercian army.
