DNA SeroChip. Researcher holding a DNA SeroChip, a type of DNA BioChip, used for cheap and rapid simultaneous analyses for infectious organisms in samples of blood. The SeroChip consists of a glass slide holding tiny dots of DNA, seen on the yellow square here. Each dot contains a different piece of DNA, each designed to bind to a specific gene on the DNA of one of the organisms to be tested. The SeroChip is then scanned by a laser, which highlights the dots on which a reaction has taken place, indicating the presence of the corresponding organisms.
