EDITORS COMMENTS

Born in Utrecht and educated at Louvain, Valerius was an esteemed professor of Latin at both universities. Renowned for his exceptional skills in rhetoric and ethics, he utilized his expertise in logic to challenge the prevailing Aristotelian cosmology that embraced concepts like celestial spheres and aether. His contributions as a scholar and educator left an indelible mark on academia, particularly within fields such as rhetoric, ethics, and Latin studies. This remarkable print serves as a testament to Cornelius Valerius' enduring legacy as a Dutch humanist whose ideas continue to inspire critical thinking and intellectual exploration even today.
