Test cricketer Ian Botham arrived in Lostwithiel, having walked from Truro, as part of his South Coast Walk in aid of Leukaemia Research. He arrived having done this leg of the journey at an average speed of 4.8 mph and stayed overnight at the Restormel Lodge Hotel. Waiting to greet him were the Mayors of Lostwithiel and Restormel, along with children from local schools and other well-wishers. The next morning he left from the Community Centre at 8am to walk the 26 miles to Torpoint. The photograph shows Ian being welcomed to Lostwithiel by Restormel Mayor, Des Curnow.
