Flour faces... Dorothy Mashi (left), Raminder Singh (centre

Flour faces... Dorothy Mashi (left), Raminder Singh (centre) and Bridget Marsden were among Birkby Infant School pupils who lined up with their chapatti flour and frying pans as they prepared to dash for the cookers and begin a chapati-making marathon today. With a little help from their teachers they kneaded and rolled out dough, added a pinch of salt and fried the chapattis as they raced to make as many as possible in the time allowed. Every chapatti they made helped to raise money for the people of Bangladesh through Oxfam. And after the cooking, the chapattis did not go to waste - the children ate some and sold the rest to teachers. 14th October 1988

EDITORS COMMENTS

With their aprons on and frying pans in hand, these young chefs are determined to make as many delicious chapattis as possible within the given time. Under the guidance of their dedicated teachers, these enthusiastic children knead and roll out dough with precision. Adding a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor, they skillfully fry each chapatti while racing against time. Their efforts are not only aimed at mastering culinary skills but also at raising funds for Oxfam's initiative to support the people of Bangladesh.
