The Queen Mother, well wrapped up against the cold, earned a warm welcome from crowds as

The Queen Mother, well wrapped up against the cold, earned a warm welcome from crowds as she arrived to open a Warwickshire museum. Sprightly as ever, the 88-year-old royal favourite returned the waves of scores of people who lined the streets of Warwick. Minutes earlier she had landed by helicopter at Sherbourne Park, home of the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Charles Smith-Ryland. The Queen Mother, dressed in a long blue coat with matching hat and shoes, appeared not to notice the chilling wind - and the spectators certainly didn t. Sylvia Aston and her friend Nora Jones, from Leamington, said the long wait had been worthwhile. Mrs Aston said: " We have been looking forward to the visit ever since we first heard about it. She gave us a wave, she looked lovely." The Queen Mother was in Warwick to re-open the Queens Own Hussars Regiment Museum, which has just undergone a £ 125, 000 facelift, and to visit the Lord Leycester Hospital where an exhibition commemorated the 400th anniversary of the death of its founder Robert Dudley, Earl of Leycester. She was also making an official visit to the nearby George Marshall Centre, headquarters of the Warwickshire Association for the Blind.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Queen Mother, radiating warmth and elegance, braved the biting cold as she arrived to inaugurate a Warwickshire museum. Despite her 88 years, the beloved royal figure exuded vitality as she graciously acknowledged the adoring crowds that lined the streets of Warwick. Wrapped in a long blue coat adorned with a matching hat and shoes, she seemed impervious to the chilling wind that swept through Sherbourne Park. Spectators were captivated by her presence, their anticipation rewarded with waves from Her Majesty herself. Amongst those eagerly awaiting her arrival were Sylvia Aston and Nora Jones from Leamington who deemed their lengthy wait worthwhile. Mrs. Aston exclaimed, 'We have been looking forward to this visit ever since we first heard about it. She gave us a wave; she looked lovely. ' The purpose of Her Majesty's visit was twofold - reopening the Queens Own Hussars Regiment Museum after its impressive £125,000 renovation and paying homage to Robert Dudley, Earl of Leycester at Lord Leycester Hospital on its founder's 400th death anniversary. Additionally, an official visit was scheduled at the George Marshall Centre where The Queen Mother would meet members of the Warwickshire Association for the Blind. This photograph captures not only an iconic moment in history but also showcases The Queen Mother's unwavering commitment to duty and connection with her subjects.
