Terry Wogan hands over the keys of the BBCs Television Theatre on Shepherd

Terry Wogan hands over the keys of the BBCs Television Theatre on Shepherds Bush Green to its two temporary " caretakers", Sue Lawley and Kenneth Williams, April 1986.
Newsreader Sue will host Terrys thrice-weekly Wogan show on Monday April 14, Wednesday April 16 and Friday April 18 and comedy actor Kenneth steps into his shoes on Monday April 21, Wednesday April 23 and Friday April 25, while Terry takes a holiday in Spain.
" I ve told them everything they need to know, " says Terry, " for example, where I keep the watering-can for the plants in my dressing-room and the key to the Hospitality wine cabinet... "
" I m looking forward to Wogan tremendously, " says Sue. " People have forgotten that I actually do have a sense of humour and can smile."
Kenneth, who has hosted the occasional chat show on the radio, is a great admirer of Terrys style. " I only hope I can do half as well as he does, " he says. April 1986

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from April 1986, the legendary Terry Wogan is seen graciously handing over the keys of the BBC's Television Theatre on Shepherd's Bush Green to its two temporary caretakers, Sue Lawley and Kenneth Williams. The occasion marks a significant transition as newsreader Sue prepares to host Terry's thrice-weekly Wogan show for a brief period while he enjoys a well-deserved holiday in Spain. With his trademark wit and charm, Terry shares some insider knowledge with his successors, including where he keeps the watering can for the plants in his dressing room and the key to the Hospitality wine cabinet. His confidence in passing on these details reflects not only his trust in Sue and Kenneth but also their ability to uphold the legacy of his beloved show. Sue Lawley expresses her excitement about taking on this new role, reminding everyone that she does indeed possess a sense of humor and can bring smiles to people's faces. Meanwhile, comedy actor Kenneth Williams humbly acknowledges Terry's influence on him and hopes to do justice by delivering half as well as Terry did. This snapshot captures an important moment in television history when two talented individuals step into Terry Wogan's shoes temporarily. It serves as a reminder of how influential and cherished Wogan was during his time at BBC Television Theatre.
