Top Cat Jeremy: Jeremy the cat has been stuck up this tree for days
Top Cat Jeremy: Jeremy the cat has been stuck up this tree for days. And no one seems very keen to rescue him. A Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals official explained: " The tree is too dangerous to climb. And the fire brigade can t reach him with their gear. All we can do is hope he comes down of his own accord. He must be starving." The official knows the difficulty of this particular tree outside a block of flats in Seven Sisters Road, North London. For six-month-old Jeremy has been stuck up it before - just two weeks ago. He fled from his owner and chased a bird to the top of the 65ft tree. RSPCA rescuers managed to lasso the tree, shaking it until the cat fell out. Unfortunately he missed a sheet being held out below and hurt himself. Four days ago, fully recovered, Jeremy climbed the tree again. And he has been there ever since. Top cat Jeremy, a tiny figure at the top of the tree. March 1974 P000642

EDITORS COMMENTS
Top Cat Jeremy: A Perilous Tree Ordeal". In this photo print, we witness the heart-wrenching plight of Top Cat Jeremy, a courageous feline who has found himself trapped atop a towering tree for days. The image captures the desperation and helplessness that surround him as he clings to the highest branches. Despite his dire situation, it seems that no one is willing or able to rescue poor Jeremy. Even the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals admits defeat in face of this treacherous tree. Their explanation reveals that climbing it would be too dangerous, and even the fire brigade's equipment falls short in reaching him. This particular tree outside a block of flats in North London holds bitter memories for young Jeremy. Just two weeks ago, he had sought refuge there after chasing a bird and was eventually rescued by RSPCA rescuers who skillfully lassoed the tree until he fell out. Sadly, his previous escape attempt resulted in injury when he missed a sheet held below. Now fully recovered from his past misfortune, Jeremy finds himself back up on that very same tree once again. With each passing day, hunger gnaws at him while hope dwindles among those watching from below. As we gaze upon this poignant scene captured in March 1974 by Mirrorpix's lens, our hearts ache for Top Cat Jeremy—a tiny figure perched precariously at the top of an unforgiving arboreal prison.
